SHAH ALAM (Feb 5, 2014): The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) today clarified that the dismissal of 20 employees from its subsidiary PKNS Holdings Sdn Bhd was done according to the terms of their employment contracts.
In was also due to a restructuring of its human resources operations to avoid duplication of duties with existing PKNS employees "and in accordance with the governance policies favouring PKNS efficient service and 'value for money'", said PKNS public relations manager Ishak Hashim in a statement.
It was reported yesterday that the employees received their dismissal letters during a meeting with the management on Tuesday morning after coming to work as usual.
The letters were personally signed by PHSB chairman Datin Paduka Norazlina Zakaria.
The report quoted Dr Alif Aiman, speaking on behalf of the dismissed employees, as saying they were shocked by the development as there had not been any discussions prior to their dismissal.
The PKNS senior marketing manager said they were only informed through the letter of termination that the move was made in accordance to changes and direction taken by PKNS in restructuring the organisation and human resources, including in PKNS Holdings.
Meanwhile, Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has denied any involvement in their sacking.
He said the dismissal was the sole decision of PKNS Holdings' management and it was not a sacking but a non-renewal of the service contracts of the staff concerned.
He added that he was notified by PKNS Holdings' management that it was a restructuring exercise to make the company more "lean".
