PUTRAJAYA (Sept 26, 2013): The government is offering Indonesian workers and their employers a three-month grace to lodge a police report on their work permits and submit them to the Indonesian embassy to ensure their continued employment in Malaysia.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today said this first-ever initiative from Oct 15 to Dec 15 is in cognizant of how some migrant workers and their employers have been duped by unscrupulous agents into paying a substantial amount, including levy fees, for work permits.
He said ministry and immigration officers will be stationed at the embassy to facilitate the processing of documents.
He was speaking to the press after meeting the republic's Labour and Transmigration Minister Dr H.A. Muhaimin Iskandar at his office here.
On the proposed RM8,000 fee imposed on Malaysians to hire Indonesian domestic workers, Muhaimin said the Indonesian government has agreed to reduce the amount to RM7,800.
On another related matter, Ahmad Zahid said the Journey Perform visas will ceased to be issued to Indonesian nationals starting from Sept 30 because it has been found that it is used to gain employment in Malaysia.
