Employers can make weekly salary payments as the practise is not against the law.
Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Mahfuz Omar said the government provides regulation for salary payments under Section 19 of the Employment Act 1955 and the National Wages Consultative Council Act 2011.
"According to the laws of the country, we have nothing against employers paying salaries weekly, whether the wages are calculated by the hour, day, week or month.
"The condition is that the limit of wages paid must not exceed one month," he said when answering a question from Nor Azrina Surip (PKR-Merbok) in the Dewan Rakyat today, on whether the government would permit weekly salary payments.
Answering an additional question on the implementation of minimum wage brought up by Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Rahim (BN-Baling), Mahfuz said this would depend on Cabinet approval.
Meanwhile, answering a separate question, Mahfuz said 303,713 workers obtained certificates in various skills through the Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL) programme.
He said various programmes via JobsMalaysia including the 3P job placement programme were organised to ensure Malaysians could secure suitable employments.
"The organisation of job carnivals are also held throughout the year to match job seekers and employers directly.
"Through the JobsMalaysia portal, graduates of skill-based training centres can register online or at the Labour Office," he said when answering a question from Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin (BN-Padang Besar) on the government's plan to reduce dependency on foreign labour. - NST
