KUALA LUMPUR -- The labour market has stabilised with employment increasing 1.3 per cent to 11.8 million workers this year, according to the 2010/2011 Economic Report released here Friday.
The report said the labour force was expected to expand 1.3 per cent to 12.2 million workers, offering 152,800 new job opportunities.
It said the male participation rate remained high at 79.8 per cent while female at 46.5 per cent.
The 25-34 age group represents the largest proportion, accounting for 31.4 per cent of the total workforce, followed by the 35-44 age group (25.8 per cent).
The services sector is expected to account for 53.6 per cent of total employment, followed by the manufacturing sector (27.8 per cent), agriculture (11.8 per cent), construction (6.5 per cent) and mining (0.4 per cent).
The report said in six months of this year, there were 992,035 jobs offer with 40 per cent contributed by the manufacturing sector and 30.4 per cent from the service sector.
The number of active job seekers was 368,877 as of June, mostly diploma and degree holders.
The report said, in order to achive objectives of the New Economic Model through the 2011 Budget, the goverment had aggresively upgrading the early education system to enhance human capital development.
