Are you ready for part-time study with your full-time job?

Are you ready for part-time study with your full-time job? Answer our questions to find out.

Committing to a part-time course on top of your 9-to-5 job might feel overwhelming, but it’s perfectly manageable with the right time management and organisation skills. If it was easy, you wouldn’t learn anything new from the experience.

Stepping out of your comfort zone is a good thing. It’s when we get comfortable doing the same thing day in, day out, that we get complacent and stop pushing ourselves.

Answer our 6 questions here to find out if you are ready for a part-time study when you work full time.

1. Do you find yourself yearning to learn something new?

Are you getting bored at work and wishing for more responsibility and more challenging projects? If yes, getting a postgraduate qualification or a specialist/technical qualification will open new doors for your career.

2. Are you hoping to get promoted at work?

Conversely, if you’re hoping to secure a promotion at work, adding a professional qualification to your CV will tell your boss that you’re ready to take your career to the next level.

3. Do you have good time-management skills?

Juggling part-time study with a full-time job will require good time-management skills as well as the initiative to plan and organise your daily workflow. However, even if you’re not the best at managing your time, you can always learn and improve. It’s all about prioritisation.

4. Is your boss supportive of you studying?

Have you expressed your interest in taking up part-time study to your boss? Has he or she been supportive of your aspirations? If yes, what are you waiting for? If no, have you tried to address your boss’s concerns about it?

5. Does the idea of a new challenge excite you?

Some people are motivated by fear and challenges. If that sounds like you, all the more reason to take the plunge and commit to this. Time to step out of your comfort zone and push your limits.

6. Do you enjoy academic research?

If you genuinely enjoy academic assignments and research, you’re set to do well. It’s a fact that we’re most productive when we’re doing things we enjoy and find inspiring.

If you answered “Yes” to at least four out of the six questions above, you should absolutely go for it. The only way to find out if you can do this is to give yourself a chance. If you don’t try, you’ll never know.
